
This delightful cookbook offers clever recipes for delicious ingredients to add to easy-to-make rice balls and to miso soups. The results are delicious! Each recipe pairs complementary flavors to be added to the rice and soup dishes, with clever twists everywhere, including mashups of East and West flavors. I think my family’s favorites, among the super-easy recipes are the Taco Onigiri — which includes taco seasonings and ground beef, tomato, and avocado — paired with Miso Soup with Bell Pepper and Cilantro.
We also love the Omurice (omelet) Onigiri with Creamy Mushroom Miso Soup. Most of the recipes are Asian-focused, like the Thai-Style Chicken Onigiri with Lemony Shrimp and Mushroom Miso Soup, which is a flavorful meal. The book includes some ingredients that aren’t likely to be found in a local supermarket, but they are easily found in any Asian grocery store. My kids love helping to make dinner with this simple and inventive approach.
The book itself is beautiful, with lovely full-page photos of each recipe, a clear and inviting layout, and the recipes are clear and well-written. All in all, this is a wonderfully creative cookbook for anyone looking for quick and easy approaches for a flavorful meal!
