One Bake, Two Ways: Fifty bakes with an all-plant option every time

Ruby Bhogal is one of my family’s favorite bakers from the “Great British” Bake Off/Baking Show. She remains one of the life-of-the-party contestants who just kept going and was not only so fun to watch, but her bakes all looked delicious (and fun) to eat. Ruby is back with a wonderful cookbook that really fits today’s families. So many of us are (or have family members) who are looking to have a healthier plant-based diet. Some of my family have or are vegetarian or just prefer to eat plant-based foods.

The recipes in this cookbook are delicious, engaging, and the vegetarian variants of each recipe are all appealing. The chapters include a fun introduction, cakes, breads, pies, cookies, and a “sauces” area that is broad enough to include brittles and such. My family is making and remaking the Banana and Pecan Tarte Tatin (including using our Creami machine to make the cinnamon rum ice cream with it). I brought the Spiced Linzer cookies with blueberry filling to a work party and, wow, it was a huge hit — everyone loved them. Aside from the delicious recipes, delightful author, and the contemporary focus of the book, is the truly outstanding design and photography found throughout. The book itself is gorgeous in the extreme and a wonderful, coffee-table style gift/keepsake in itself.
